I think that figures. Notice that Firefox is number two to IE. I for one
switched from IE to Firefox within the last year.
Still not a kick in the pants off 90%, which is a HUGE market share.

I've seen the same IE trend with my aawstats over the past 6 months or
so. So far this month, combining the 16 sites I maintain:
IE (all versions) 80%
Firefox 9%
Mozilla 5%
Opera 3%
Konquerer, Lynx, Safari etc. 3%<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: I.E's market share less than 90% for first time in 5 years. |

I think once MS realizes their market share is dropping quickly, they will
get their act together and work harder on IE. It seems their rapid IE
development stopped at the time when they killed the competition. MS works
hard only when competition is chipping at them.

My Awstats shows IE as 80.6 and Firefox as 8.3% on 1 server.
On another IE 70.8 and others 19.6%

My own *subjective* opinion is that onestat is right
about Foxie gaining market share rapidly.
But their description of methodology on the page you sent --
1) does not address their method of determining whether a particular browser
is IN FACT being used,
2) nor does it support exactly how the visitors that visit sites using
their services can accurately be described as 'global'.
"Methodology: A global usage share of xx percent for browser Y means that xx
percent of the visitors of Internet users arrived at sites that are using
one of OneStat.com's services by using browser Y. All numbers mentioned in
the research are averages of last week and all measurements are normalised
to the GMT timezone. Research is based on a sample of 2 million visitors
divided into 20,000 visitors of 100 countries each day."
I'll just stick with using the *better* browser, which is Firefox or
Mozilla, or even Konqueror or Opera.

This part also bothers me.
Are they saying that you can:
1) take 20,000 visitors from Luxemborg
2) take 20,000 visitors from China
....and then give these two samples *equal* weight???
Or are they saying something quite completely different?
Given the sentence, you can't tell *what* the averaging method is.
You *have* to know the details of the averaging method to trust a statistic!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: I.E's market share less than 90% for first time in 5 years. |

The natural order of cpaitalism, which is why we have monopoly laws.
Shame the US DOJ can't seem to enforce them, and it is left up to the
OSS movement to fill the hole in the ground where Netscape used to be.

Like I said 'pich of salt' - However, all the trends seem to show a
downturn in IE.
According to some articles I've read, the Microsoft eye is starting to
twitch at the inroads Firefox is making into the browser community.
Didn't the developers recently take out a full page ad in the New York
times?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: I.E's market share less than 90% for first time in 5 years. |

Stats really don't mean much. These are our stats for November 2004:
MS Internet Explorer 55 %
Opera 30.1 %
Firefox 8.7 %
Wget 2.4 %
Mozilla 2 %
Netscape 0.6 %
Unknown 0.6 %
Avant Browser 0.1 %
Safari 0 %
Konqueror 0 %
