Post subject: Way to make website think my machine is Windows?
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I have a banking website that I use that allows for deposits by
scanning checks. My only problem is that the website checks to see
what system and browser I am using. The system requirements state that
I need either Win or Mac and Java JRE and Firefox. I have Linux of
course and meet all other requirements. I have installed the add-on
for switching the user agent and have tried that to no avail. Testing
the java applet still shows Linux with the agent switched. Is there
anything I can do? I am just trying to get past the system check
because it is just a java applet that the website uses.

Thanks.
Scott

I would give a very serious complaint to the bank. If *I* am paying
for their service, WTH are they to tell me what OS I have to use on my
computer?

comes to Mozilla questions.

That's the correct thing to do for a long-term solution, but that won't
help him use the site right now. Sites like these can be painfully slow
to update unless it's a serious security issue, or the one complaining
is their biggest customer.

I've made multiple complaints over the past couple years to my credit
card company about serious usability problems with their site, but
they've changed nothing, except maybe to make it worse. Sad I'm not a big
enough fish for them to bother with.

Yep

My online busines bank only works with the version of Java that used to
bundled with Windows, won't work with standalone version from Sun, even
though Microsfot no longer have their version available.
