Post subject: inetinfo.exe memory issue
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi all,

We have a Win2K Adv Srv running teacher websites for our high school. Most
of these sites are just text pages.

Teachers came back to work last week and suddenly the inetinfo.exe process
is steadily consuming memory. It takes about three days until I have to
re-start to get the box running quickly again. Logs aren't helping as I don't
know how to isolate which site could be the culprit. Is there a way to do
that? Machine doesn't have SP4 on it, just 3 plus patches.

Ideas gratefully acknowledged!

Sheldon

Are you running multiple subwebs under a single site, or do you have
multiple sites on the server?

You could run one or more of the sites in Isolated mode to narrow down the
source of the problem as the Isolated site will then have it's own instance
of dllhost.exe.

You can use perfmon or taskmgr to find the PID of the dllhost instance
that's using the RAM, then use the "Component Services" snap-in to see which
web site corresponds to the PID.

Just out of curiosity, any particular reason not to bring your box up to the
latest patch level?

It's multiple subsites under a general one.
I hadn't brought the SP up to date because I had wanted to wait for it to
settle and hear about what errors it created. Then, I got kinda busy and
forgot about it. Probably will load it in the coming week.

How do I get one of those sites into Isolated Mode? Darn me for not being
more up to date on IIS!

Thanks for the suggestions.
