having trouble with apache 2.0 and handlers - I was using apache 1.3.xx a while. Then I desided to upgrade to apache 2.0.xx. but I have a problem with handlers! My was like this <font

when i connect though my dns name i can view all images when i connect
through the public ip some image extentions do not work. i have not been
able to find the solution in google.

more info. not all image extensions work when i do the above. a jpg
extension may view while a JPG extension will not. it seems to be a
config error(log file states

On Unix-style platforms file name -and extentions- are case sensitive, so
image.jpg and image.JPG are two distinct files. Mis-cased names will most
likely cause 404-s.

Access either <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://12.220.39.197/gifs/watermark.png" target="_blank">http://12.220.39.197/gifs/watermark.png</a> or
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mrsandman.net/gifs/watermark.png" target="_blank">http://www.mrsandman.net/gifs/watermark.png</a> just shows the image without a
problom.
However, opening <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://12.220.39.197/" target="_blank">http://12.220.39.197/</a> will not show the image, where
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mrsandman.net/" target="_blank">http://www.mrsandman.net/</a> does. Then viewing <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://12.220.39.197/" target="_blank">http://12.220.39.197/</a> with
Opera, havng disabled the referrer logging options shows your opening page
illustrated.

I strongly believe your site has some kind of referrer check setup for this
/gifs/ folder. Having the IP as a referrer instead of the name to match
acces is denied.

Be advised to be more consistent with your links, some have others omit a
leading slash.

ok i figured this out. i had an .htaccess file to block image theft. i
didnt have the ip configured for it. well i know now it works!! i still
cant figure out why some extensions view while others dont though. any
help is appreciated.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

That's indeed some kind of a referrer check.

Client may have cached the error ... cann't do much about it, but have the
user press F5 or have him|her wipe local cache.
Not all filetypes are known in all brands and version of browser, please
specifiy failing types and the line in the error_log the produce, if any.

No, and the issue is now beyond the scope of Apache.
Most likely the database accessed per PHP script holds two records per
image.
