I don't have time to struggle to figure this out. I am going to rename them
all to PHP using 123renamer which changes the file extensions and works
great. I just found it.

Then I can use EditPlus2 to change the extensions of all the files in the
navigational pages to .php. This should only take me 2 hours max to do now
and probably just one hour since I found that batch renamer that will change
file extensions too.

I'm no Unix expert, but it sounds like the server thinks that file
type (.html) is a CGI script. The 500 error in my experience results
from errors connected with script execution, as distinct from web page
serving.

Just trying to help, as you're short of time. Best thing is to talk to
your host.

Yeah I just want to know why it has done this...
Strange that none of the other sites were affected.
Even the FAQ is fine... I just don't know what happened
but I want to know. *grin*

maybe some strange apache-config that has .html assigned to a
cgi-script-handler?
why don't you give one of the files a 755-chmod and try it? you can do that
in your ftp, probably file-properties or something (using total commander,
it should be CTRL-A or Menu File->Change Fileattributes). If that works, you
can run
chmod -R 755 *
from your shell in that directory to change the permissions of all files in
that directory and it's subdirs.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Hi Jan,

Yeah I tried that already and it didn't change anything.
I have no idea why this one site seems to have changed it.
The other sites on the same server are fine.
*scratches head*

Something got messed up and I need to fix it.

Well I know it wasn't anything I did but the problem I was having is
fixed now...

That was pretty fast work as I only submitted a help ticket maybe 30
minutes ago...

The final verdict is in...

It is the strangest thing but there was an .htaccess file in my root
which should not have been there and which I didn't put there.

That was all that caused this whole mess. The question I have is
who put it there or how did it get there???

Anyway, the support ticket worked great. Less than 30 minutes
and it was fixed plus I had a reply... *grin*
