Post subject: need help finding shopping cart..
Archived from groups: alt>ecommerce (more info?)

I have a website that sells about 20 items of clothing. I am not going
to post it here because I don't want people to be turned off and think
that I am just advertising.

Its a basic site, but nicely built, and it has 2 catalogs, one for
winter and one for summer.

When you enter the catalog, you see 10 item pictures and short
descriptions. You can also click on the picture or description and it
takes you to a page with only that item and a big picture and a more
detailed description. Standard stuff.

However, I don't have shopping cart capability, and do not want any kind
of merchant account.

I know there are many shopping carts available, but only a few that are
one-time-fee only and do not require webhosting or merchant accounts.

Basically, I want something like this:
Be able to just add a BUY button for every item which would then give
the customer the info on price, shippin and be able to choose colour and
# of items, after which it would add it to the shopping cart.

Thats all I need, I imagine the cart will have its own catalog and will
tag the buy button with a code? I don't need the cart software to
handle any pictures or descriptions, just a link from the buy button to
the shopping cart. Also need checkout feature!

I have been looking like crazy and have only found ONE! I bought it
(X-Cart, Litecommerce) and it seems like it is perfect, but it is not
compatible with Yahoo hosting since it uses something called Ionloader.
Changing host is not an option.

Thanx in advance!

I don't know why you asked that, it really doesn't matter, the fact is
it is not an option.

But since you asked, I used Yahoo Sitebuilder to build the website, and
if I change host, I'll have to edit with other software from now on, and
the yahoo pages open up real funny in other software (like frontpage or
whatnot).

In any case, I just need a damn shopping cart, I thought they were
everywhere.

Carts *are* everywhere - they just dont work with Yahoo hosting.
http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Shopping_Carts/

A standard $4 a month hosting will give you
500MB hard disk space
5GB Bandwidth
20 mysql databases
Support php
allow 50 email addresses

Are you using the $12 hosting from Yahoo?
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/wh1.php?d=1

I could go on, but what I'm saying is that Yahoo hosting is *severely*
limiting your options. I run many e-commerce shops, and would never
consider yahoo to host any of them.

But to answer your question, you are probably best suited with a html
link, try this:

Well, I used the $12 hosting option, but then I had to update to the
$20/mth option in order to use PHP, but even then it wouldn't work with
IonLoader (do any of your hosting providers work with Ionloader?). I
bought LiteCommerce (X-Cart) but will have to return it, or so it seems.

Do you have a link about Ionloader? I'll check up on it then.

But re-reading your post, it seems you dont really want a shopping
cart, but the ability to add 'buy now' button for the products. So I
would have thought the basic paypal option would suit you best?

If you want a free quality shopping cart, try www.oscommerce.com it is
arguably the best free solution out there (beating *many* paid for
solutions). And doesnt need Ionloader.
