Post subject: need help or advice on chargebacks
Archived from groups: alt>ecommerce (more info?)

Hi,
our company runs an online shop which in the last month has received
over £3000 in chargebacks, this has just been found out as we have had
an email from our merchant credit card services who now want this money
transfered into their account.

This (i don't believe) has happened before (chargebacks) so i didnt
know until we had the email from our merchant supplier.

does anyone have any advice on how we can go about recouping this
money?
we have tried to ring the phone numbers left on the orders but
obviously the numbers are not in use.
we have also sent emails to the email addresses with no response.
We have used a courier to send the items out and have signatures from
all the order deliveries in question.

Basically i need to know if we have lost the money completely or is
there anything we can do to get the money back?

should i pay the credit card merchant the amount the chargebacks have
totalled?

any advice would be greatly appriaciated.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Well, if you've got delivery receipts, I would followup on that line.
You should verify the address with the credit cards as well.

HI Mr Manuals,

thanks for your reply, might sound thick but how whould you go about
verifying the credit card with the address?
And to follow up on the delivery receipts would you just send a letter?
the phone numbers i've tried but they are just dead.
I know now to check before sending out large orders all the information
is correct.

cheers

I would supply the credit card companies with the addresses you sent
orders to, along with the delivery receipts to verify they are the
correct addresses on the cards.

Hello,
You need to understand the chargback process completely or you will
potentially go out of business. You should have a policy that enables
you to fight chargbacks and win. This policy depends on you business
and it's price points.
First, you will need to supply the merchant processor the money, if not
you will be blocked from having an account from any processor. Then ask
what type of information you can supply to fight the CB. Be very
specific and active, the processor may not fight as hard for you as you
would like so be active.

Without knowing the specifics I cannot be specific on how to win,
however documentation is key.

Good luck
