Post subject: what the hell is this?! Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

good evening
I installed apache tonight on my w2k box. This is not the first time I've
done this, so I have some idea of how things work. However I now have this
error that's very strange and even more annoying.
When I type http://myurl.net/dir with NO "/" at the end, it directs me to
this site:
http://www.startsurfingplus.com/index.asp?id=6
But when I type http://myurl.net/dir/ WITH the "/" at the end, it takes me
to the directory as normal.
This has never happened to me before, and nor has it happened to anyone that
I know. I cannot get to the bottom of this, and it's pissing me off very
badly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may have to set a server name.
See <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/FAQ-E.html#set-servername" target="_blank">http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/FAQ-E.html#set-servername</a>
and also

Sounds like it has absolutely nothing to do with Apache. It sounds like you
have one of those spyware apps running. Check out Ad-Aware or SpyBot Search
and Destroy..

I just tried that, and they didn't solve the problem either. This is very

Thanks guys, but I just managed to fix it. It WAS a server name problem
after all. I had put in http://myurl.net/ when all I needed was
"myurl.net" without the http:// stuff.
thanks a lot for your help anyway.

ah, sorry to bug you but I just remembered one question I had.
My document root is set to G:\Webroot. When viewing any of the sub-folders,
at the top of the index it says:
Index of /dir
How can I change this to say...
Index of /myurl/dir
Is this possible?

It could be that your browser is doing the autosearch and redirecting you to
where it thinks is what you are looking for. with my windoze box it sends me
to msn, you may have been hit by a viri that has changed your search page to
the new site.
