Post subject: exporting product data from Miva Merchant
Archived from groups: alt>ecommerce (more info?)

I have a potential customer who is using Miva Merchant. They have about
1500 products in their present shopping cart, and are wanting to swith
to our service. Obviously if we can export the product data from Miva
that would be great. According to Miva documentation, you can export to
a file or via a connection. But she was apparently told by someone at
Miva that when you export the product database, they delete it from
Miva. She indicated that when she has ever tried to import product data
to Miva it does not work, so she is afraid to export it.

Is it really true that Miva will delete the database of products when
you do an export? That seems crazy. She is afraid she will lose her
data if she tries it.

Thanks,

Marshall

That is completely incorrect. Exporting the products does not delete
anything. It simply creates a flat file with the data.

Why not just move the existing store? Rather than recreate everything
all over again?

Doesnt sound like you're very experienced with Miva yourself.

I have no experience with Miva, they are a competitor. The customer wants
to move the products over to our service at king-cart.com and was wanting to
know how to get us a flat file of the products in her database. I looked at
some of the folders on her system, but could not figure out which file
contained the products database, so I suggested that she simply export it
per Miva's FAQ. That is when she told me that Miva told her that doing so
would delete the database.
