Here's a "legitimate" question...

Has any you used one of those services that promise top level SE placement
for a monthly fee, such as TopRankNow.com? Do they work? Are they worth it?
What kind of results can I expect? Thanks.

They don't work, they're not worth it, and you can expect poor results.

Are you on Google just now? That's about all you can do. Have you seen
their (Google's) webmaster section, it offers advice, basically common
sense.

There is no substitute for quality content, and providing an excellent
service for your users.

Is this a new site you have?

Have you tried advertising? Google Adwords work well.

Well, it's not really a new site. I've had it for about six years. I just
hadn't worked on it for about 3 and a half years as I've been very busy with
work and other projects. Just recently (about 3 months ago) I decided to
re-launch the website, just for the heck of it and to keep it as hobbie.

Yes, I'm currently advertising. As this isn't really a money-making venture,
I can't spend that much on advertising. So I only spend about $300-$400/mo
in advertising, which is about the same amount of money I make from the few
sponsor ads I have on there. That's why I wanted to figure out if it was
worth it taking $40 or $50 out of that money and put into one of those
ranking sites.

About advertising, I did use Google for a few days, but at 5 cents per
visitors to a non-commercial website, is a bit steep, so currently I'm
concentrating at the cheaper and smaller networks such as Marketbanker
(where I can get visitors in the 1-2 cents range). If you have any other
suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
