Post subject: Can I do this with the domain url?
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Hi,

I already have a site up and running with my business named as say,

www.mybusiness.com

The dns name servers are the Host1's name, NOT this one, or one of mine.

I now have found another host (Host2) who I want to use and they say I
can use my business name (mybusiness.com) as the dns name server.

The question is,

can I keep www.mybusiness.com with Host1
as well as using the name dns.mybusiness.com with Host2

At this time I want to leave www.mybusiness.com with Host1 as I am paid
up for a few more months, thus the dilemna.

I hope this is clear enough

Rock

Really "mybusiness.com" or do you mean something like "ns.mybusiness.com"?
Because if "mybusiness.com" points to a name server somewhere, then it can't
also point to a web server elsewhere.

I am having a really hard time understanding your question, but I think the
answer is yes, so long as all the parties involved are cooperative.

You can split DNS and hosting any way you like. You can have your DNS
anywhere and records within the domain can point to servers anywhere.

Thank you Miguel.

Sorry about the clarity, I am finding it hard to make it easier to
relate.. Anyway maybe it is better now.

Yes I did mean ns.mybusiness.com for the new Host2.

At the moment <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mybusiness.com" target="_blank">www.mybusiness.com</a> is with Host1 and the nameserver is
ns1.host1.com.

I want to use other doms with Host2 and use the ns address
ns.mybusiness.com.

Regards.

That's no problem. You will need a host entry with the registry for
ns.mybusiness.com (and what's the second nameserver going to be?) but
whoever sets it up will take care of that.
