It is really depends on what context you are talking about. Such as
initial cost, research before operation, operational cost, marketing
cost, scale of success ... etc.

Initial cost to open an online business is nothing as compare to
conventional business. However most of such online businesses never
even earn enough to justify the time spent on them. People can open an
online shop without doing any proper or no research, and can drag it
many years without earning any substantial amount. With conventional
business you can not survive if you are not earning.

As far as operational and marketing cost are concerned both online and
conventional business are at par. Infact marketing online is fiercer
than conventional, however online has advantage of more target
audience.

Scale of success is also same depending upon your efforts and
investment. Though with online, you can be sure to expand your self to
wider audience any time without opening any other chain store.
