Hi,
I'm wondering if it's better to use apachectl or /etc/init.d/httpd to
restart apache.

I had some problem with /etc/init.d/httpd restart:

/etc/init.d/httpd restart does actually a stop and then a start. What
happened is that my server took a bit of time to stop, and the start
failed because there was still some process listening on 80 .
I had a service interruption because of that.

As soon as apachectl uses /usr/sbin/httpd -k restart directly, my
guess is it should be better to avoid the risk of start failure.

Thanks for your opinion.

Yes, but init.d/httpd restart doesnt use apachectl, it does a killproc
for stop and then it does a start.
apachectl gives /usr/sbin/httpd a restart signal directly.

I dont know if it's the same in all fedora based distrib.

Note the /etc/init.d/httpd is not distributed by Apache, it's maintained and
distributed with Apache by -in yoyr case- Fedora.
The anomilies listed at
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/misc/FAQ.html#redhat may well aply to
Fedora too.
