Post subject: "Could not connect to remote server"
Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

Installed:
--------------------------------------------
Apache 2.0.47 on XP Home with service pack 1
Selected localhost:8080 on installation
--------------------------------------------

Each time I try either 'http://localhost:8080'
or 'http://127.0.0.1' or 'http://localhost/',
I get the same error message: "Could not connect
to remote server". Setting 'ServerName' in the
'httpd.conf' file is set to 'localhost:8080'.

Incidentally, I changed 'ThreadsPerChild'from 250
to 50, and 'MaxRequestPerChild' from 0 to 1000.

Any ideas anyone? I have a feeling it's something
real simple. My last resort is to uninstall and try
the 1.3 version......

Do not put the port number there, there is the Port directive
for that.
Is Apache started? And listening on some port?

ps -ef | grep httpd and netstat | grep 80 does report something?

Have you got a firewall that is blocking incoming requests for port
8080? XP has its built in firewall (ICF, I think) that you would need
to configure.
