Post subject: IIS 5.1 Can't configure Virtual Directory In XP Pro
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have WinXP Pro and according to help|About in Computer Management, I have
IIS5.1. If I expand Internet Information Services|Web Sites|Default Web
Site and right-click on IISHelp, on the Virtual Directory tab, I can't click
on "Configuration...".

When I do, it clicks, but it doesn't bring up anything. I can't get this to
work for a new (my own) virtual directory either. At first, I was
suspicious of my Virtual Directory, but when I realized I can't do it for
one that was installed with IIS, I have to wonder.

Any ideas?

Where do you read the 'configuration' button ? AFAIK, there's no
configuration button.. maybe the document is outdated.

I'm reading it right off the dialog. To reiterate...
1. Open up Internet Information Services from Admin Tools.
2. Expand computer name (local computer)
3. Expand Web Sites
4. Select Default Web Site
5. Right click on IISHelp and select Properties.
6. Select the Virtual Directory tab.
7. Click on the 'Configuration...' button. It is in the Application
Settings portion of the dialog.

Application Name: [xxxxx ] [Remove]
Starting point: <Default Web...\IISHelp [Configuration...]
Execute Permissions: [Scripts only]
Application Protection: [Medium (Pooled)] [Unload]

<g> Thanks Bernard. Actually, I managed to figure this out yesterday
evening, doing exactly what you've outlined here. Although, I'm still
having some problems though. They are outside of the scope of the original
topic, but you might have an idea, so I put it here.

In the Virtual Directory on my WinXP Pro IIS5.1 machine, I placed a
default.html file that shows a simple message. Then, from that machine, I
typed:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://machname/MountPoint/default.html" target="_blank">http://machname/MountPoint/default.html</a> and it worked fine, brought up my
simple web page.

However, from another machine in my office, I attempt to navigate to that
same web page on my IIS machine and the browser sits there for about 15
seconds attempting to load the page and eventually returns with:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site
might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need
to adjust your browser settings.

I attempted this same thing but connecting to my trusty Win2K IIS5.0 box
that has the same webpage and it works fine.

Any thoughts?

Ummm... Please don't spend too much time on this either. I figured it out.
I had to
open Port 80 on the firewall on my IIS box. I hadn't considered that as a
necessity, but apparently it is.

Thanks for your time and help.
