e commerce and web site design

I am currently doing a web site design course with the goal of creating
web sites as a self employed web designer. I am new to e commerce and
am aware that in the future I will need to learn either PHP, Perl or
ASP. However at this stage I can only use off the shelf e commerce
products for my clients.

Does anyone know of good off the shelf products that can be used for
web designers? I am unsure whether these products are available to be
used for web designers to sell on to their clients (i.e. through
customization using the tools of the application). In other words would
I be breaking any laws by using them to create e commerce sites for my
clients. Do they come with a code so they can only be used on one
computer.

It really depends on what you want and what type of server you are on.
If you are on Windows, ASP or .NET would be something to consider. On
*NIX, you would want to consider PHP.

There is CandyPress, Comersus, and VP-ASP cart for ASP. And for PHP is
OSCommerce, LiteCart, X-Cart, etc.
