How many times a day do you guys get idiots filling in your contact
forms with mindless insults, just for the hell of it?
Got my first today. The chicken didn't even leave his email address.
I won't post profanity, but "u call this a website i dont think this
website shud be allowd online" was in there.

When I did web design I had a contact form on my portfolio page and I got a
few insults through it... on par with what you are describing here.
Nowadays, I have a dozen other pages up now (restaurant ordering systems and
courier company placement systems) and I haven't received a single bad
comment in the past 2 years...
I just chalk the web design ones up to other designers just going out there
and checking out the competition, dissing everybody else so that maybe
they'll feel a little better
In all, I really wouldn't worry too much about it... thats the thing with
having forms on your site, it lets anybody fill it out, whether they have
something to say or not<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: A bit OT: Contact form idiots |

Perhaps only partially related, but:

You should see some of the emails I get!
Yes I keep them, masochist that I am, but in some ways they are
flattering, in others amusing.
Oh and some come from regulars here!

I like that idea. I think rather than returning a page full of insults,
I could probably just redirect them to a nasty horse fetish site, or
something from rotten.com
Can't be too difficult
Just got to make sure the script only reacts to offensive messages, not
clients who can't type well.

Why bother? The person will then try to have more fun by seeing what ticks
and you end up getting more of what you're trying to avoid.
Just accept any feedback and thank the person. Then let the script decide
to post it or not based on a word list.

This was my first random insult mail. I almost took it personally at
first, before I remembered it had come from an illiterate coward hiding
behind a fake name and email

Ducking not required!
Bolton has gone downhill. I live in Horwich, but people here fear
technology so I target Bolton. It's the biggest town nearby, with
limited competiton too.
The last line of my sig is my ingenious way of spamming those forums
that keep archiving Usenet.

I'm sure something like that really happened, didn't it?
Somebody had a script that was picking profanity out of innocent words.
Wonder how long it took them to figure that out.
Probably best just to have the form accept everything, then laugh at the
people who wasted their time to insult you.
Besides, somebody used my form properly and I'm now dealing with a new
client!

It's a classic. The placename 'Scunthorpe' being banned from being
typed in to many school internet computer system searches by the
'censorship' software.
