OK, ok, I know this has been a problem since sometime in 2002 but I still
haven't found out how to fix it. I seem to be running v 4.0.2.4426 of
Frontpage Server Extensions on a number of sites on my W2K Server, IIS5.0
web server. I've never had a problem before, and all of a sudden the
Configure Server Extensions option is missing from the context menu, and the
Server Extensions property tab is missing from the sites in question. FPSE
still seems to be functioning on the existing sites, it's only newly created
sites that are having this problem.

I'm wondering if migrating that server to AD, and/or installing the SUS tool
on that server caused these problems.

It's getting really frustrating. I've seen some chatter about creating a new
admin account, thinning out it's group membership and then using this
account to create the new site - but this doesn't work. I saw a reference to
a KB article to fix this - but the ID was invalid.

Does anyone know what caused this problem and how to fix it. Not having FPSE
installed causes problems with Interdev running on my development
workstations.

Many thanks for any feedback,

Alan Howard

Your best bet at getting an answer is posting to
microsoft.public.frontpage.extensions.windowsnt , which you have already
done.

I would recommend uninstalling FPSE and going to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnservext/h
tml/fpse02win.asp and get the latest version of the extensions.

Thanks.

Have you removed the Admin account from all the Author, Browsers, and
Collaborators?

Thanks. I'd be keen to identify the cause before upgrading. Any idea of the
effects of upgrading to FPSE 2002 on integration with VSS and/or Interdev
and/or Visual Studio .Net?

Regards,

Alan

It's a little more complicated for the 'normal' admin account, but I did set
up a new user with membership in only the Domain Users and Administrators
groups. After logging out and back in as this new user I still had the same
problem.

Any other ideas?

Unfortunately, no. Removing those groups and using the old Admin
account worked for me.
