According to the access log, a certain visitor had an ip address of
24.69.xx.xx.
I recognize this as our local cable isp, and that would be ok for this
visitor.

According to apache server-status, the same visitor is reported as
70.69.xx.xx, which is also our local cable isp.

Why would apache report different ip for the same visitor at the same time?

I had not noticed the difference before, but also I had not been actively
watched both server-status and the access log at the same time.

Why do you think they are the same visitor?

First, I know they are the same visitor because nobody else knows about
those pages & passwords.
This is an experimental server, accessed from a hidden link on the main
server. The 'referrer' entry was appropriate.

Second, there is no mention of 70. in the log, and there was never a
reference to 24. in repeated server-status pages, while the log file was
getting the 24. entries in the log, over about a half hour period.
