Would you accept this job as a flash designer/ web designer full time?
The title will be webmaster.
You are working as a temp. You are getting paid $32.00 an hour. That's
a little over $66,000 a year! Wow! But there is no benifits or
retirement plan.
You get offered a full time position. They say they will not go over
$50,000 a year. You opt out of the benefits package because you're
significan other already has you covered. Besides, their coverage does
not have dental or eye check ups, which your significan other's
coverage does.
They say you will not be covered for a 401K plan until you have been
there for one year. They tell you it is the 401K company's policy.
You get one weeks vacation after a year. It stays at one week for
several years. I think the highest it goes is two years, and that's
after two or three years. I will have to double check that.
You get two sick days after one year plus holidays. I am not sure if
the holidays are paid. I will have to check that.
They tell you they like your style of web design and your work. They
tell you your style fits their company's brand, and that is hard to
come by. THEY TOLD ME MY STYLE WAS HARD TO COME BY.
Would you try to get more pay out of them? What would you do?
They said I will never make 100k a year there, but I was not expecting
to. Just 60k.
By the way, please don't misunderstand my question. I'M TAKING THE
JOB! I just want to get the most out of the offer.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: would you accept this full time web design? |

Tell them to either give you the benefits, or give you the $60k

I don't know if I'm misunderstanding this, or that it is
normal where you come from, but one week holiday per year
seems very very little to me. I would certainly want at leat
4 weeks per year. Plus 2 weeks that can't be taken up as
weeks, but only as separate days.

Same story. I must be misunderstanding this.

That's no use to me.....I live in a rural area of England, and I sincerely
doubt the local shops would acept $dollars when I'm buying stuff.....They'd
need to pay me £sterling.....

hold out for two weeks holiday rising to 28 days after several years...try
to get an agreed maximum number of hours per week
point out that you NEED that if you aren't going to "burn out"

Standard practice in North America is only two weeks per year. Europe is
much more lax when it comes to holidays.

Doesn't sound so hot to me. In fact - one week holiday is completely
unacceptable. I got 4 weeks right off the top, and I get 7 days per year as
"special" days like when I need to stay home for my son, etc.
Two sick days per year ? This is a joke - I get 18 sick days .
They don't sound like a great company and they pay is average.
I'm assuming you're in the States ?

I watched the game and am french. England came back nicely and i was
really nervous at the end.Final France wins 24-21.
It is a good break for french rugby after the dissapointing games in
the semis vs England and 3rd place vs New-Zealand in the last world
cup.
I know i know the is big time OT but i had to answer.

Sounds a bit like slavery to me. - but then it is America?
If it was here they would have to give you, (by law) at
least four weeks holiday first year, (soon to be five), plus
statutorys - last count I think about 10 per year. No
medical or other benefits, but then medical is all free here
anyway.
