I'm having a problem with Apache, which I've configured to run on port
8080 on Windows Server 2003 R2. When I first noticed the problem, I
uninstalled Apache, deleted all Apache files, and installed the latest
version- 2.2.3.
As soon as I start Apache server, my CPU utilization goes over 60% and
the hard drive starts churning. I'm not running any web apps locally
or doing any development on this system. Disconnecting the computer
from the network has no effect, so it's not caused by outside http
requests.
I have Subversion installed on the machine, but I haven't configured my
new installation of Apache to support allow Subversion clients to
connect. So it's not a factor.
Is there any explanation for this? It makes no sense to me. When I
stop the Apache server, cpu utlization returns to 0 and the disk stops
churning. As soon as I start Apache, cpu utilization and hard drive
activity take off again. I'm paranoid that it's a worm or virus but
can't detect anything.
