Thanks for your response. Is there a way to do it without host headers so
that I can use completely different domain names that share the very same IP
address, e.g. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.domain1.com," target="_blank">www.domain1.com,</a> <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.domain2.com," target="_blank">www.domain2.com,</a> etc?

It depends. If domains need to map to different sites in IIS, then you need
to use host headers. if the domains map to the same site in IIS, then you
don't need tus use host headers. For example, we have over 7000 domains
sharing one IP address, which is mapped to a single site in IIS - our
application, displays content based on the domain name.

Host headers let you use completely different domain names. Why don't you
want to use host headers?
Cheers

Thanks for responding, for some reason I thought that you were limited to
domains such as sales.mydomain.com, products.mydomain.com and such. I'm in
the process of experimenting right now but I really won't know until my new
registered domain names take effect.
I'm basically creating multiple sites and setting the host headers to the
different domains such as mydomain1.com, mydomain2.com, etc...and specifying
the same IP. I hope this works! I'll know in a few days I guess.
Kind Regards,
Fernando L. Arredondo

No luck. My domain names and DNS have propagated and I can ping the domain
names but I cannot browse the site unless I don't specify a host header
(this limiting me to 1 domain per IP). My DNS settings for the domains do
point to the same IP. I am using Windows 2000 Server by the way.
Is there documentation demonstrating how to host multiple domains sharing
the same IP?
Kind Regards,
Fernando L. Arredondo

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/?id=190008" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/?id=190008</a>
HOW TO: Use Host Header Names to Host Multiple Sites from One IP Address in
IIS 5.0
The way host-headers work is that when the browser sends a HTTP request to
the server, it includes a HTTP Host: header, which specifies the domain name
of the site it wishes to access. IIS looks at this Host: header, and
compares that to the ones defined in the IIS Manager, and if there's a
match, it sends the request to that website.
So, there's no restriction on whether you have <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.domain1.com" target="_blank">www.domain1.com</a> and
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.domain2.com" target="_blank">www.domain2.com</a> as your host headers in IIS Manager. It's just up to the
browser to send the appropriate Host: header as part of its request. If
you're using some kind of forwarding service (where 3rd party service
forwards <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.domain1.com" target="_blank">www.domain1.com</a> to your dynamic IP address or similar), then Host:
headers might not be send by the browser to your server.
Cheers
Ken
