Post subject: Web Page Question
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I had a web page that I designed through an old web program called
"trellex". It has not been published for quite some time but I would like to
do so now. My ISP provides some space on their servers for such a purpose.
All of their web design templates are pretty "simple" looking and I'd rather
not use them. Is there a way to post my old web pages to my new ISP?. If so,
How do I go about saving the old web pages and transfer them to my new ISP
with a FTP program?.

S'far as I remember reading, Trellix [with an "i"] is a proprietary
website creator, and only available on a very few ISPs. It's strictly
an on-line browser-based editor, using a selection of templates.
Freehand not allowed.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.trellix.com/products/trellixwebexpress.asp" target="_blank">http://www.trellix.com/products/trellixwebexpress.asp</a>

You may be limited to saving the generated source of your pages.

What is the URL for the old site?

as they offer web space then it seems logical to assume that they would
have some mechanism in effect to allow you to upload files to that
space. did you bother to RTFM. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/" target="_blank">http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/</a>

you should have a local copy of your pages anyway, just upload them to
your new space (after reading the FM to see if there are any issues you
should be aware of - like how to do it). if you haven't got a local copy
just log into your old space, download the files to your computer then
upload them to your new space.

 > and transfer them to my new ISP with a FTP program?.

it depends on WTF the FM says, i would guess yes although they may have
some sort of custom setup. RTFM.

did i mention RTFM?

Assuming the website is still online, you can normally use virtually any
brower to visit each page and save it to your local computer. Put them all
in a folder together. Your ISP should be able to tell you if you need to
use "index.htm" or "default.htm" as your start page. Read the source code
to find what the pages are called and rename them to the appropriate names.
You should now have a working "website." upload it (using whatever your
ISP wants you to use (FTP?) to the website directory they have offered.
btw, you probably want to change all the references in the old website to
where it lives to the new place where it lives. You should be able to do
all those changes with any text editor. It will be tedious to do it this
way, but if you don't yet have an html editor with "site management"
facilities that include "change all strings from this to that" its the best
you can do....
Respectfully,
Tom Miller
