formats such as MPEG, AVI, Real Player.

MPEG - very common, probably the most common... (support wise)
AVI - there are many CODECs available so make sure its the most common type
Real - less common than it used to be, there are advantages, but since there
software started to include spy / annoying features a lot of people are
getting rid of it...
