I use this web hosting company and have generally been very satisfied.

However my domains have been inaccessible all day today (2nd August
2004). Even the hosting company's own website www.virtualnames.co.uk
is inaccessible. The phone line is constantly engaged.

I hope this is due to some technical problem which will soon be
resolved rather than something more fundamental.

Is anyone else having problems and does anyone know what the cause is?

Virtual Names: if you are reading this, please post a reply to let us
all know what is happening.

Dear John,

Hi, it's unfortunate, however there seems to be a real problem.
After a long night of partying to celebrate the total tossing of our 1,000th
customer, our Server Admin mistook the UPS Generator for a toilet and pissed
away all our power.

We are looking into contingencies now.

For the UPS that is.
Our Admin's found the loo now.

Thanks for your thoughts.

BTW, did you want to upgrade your account to annual?

I cant get a DNS entry for them through NTL, but can with others
(217.10.138.199) but this doesn't respond to pings.

I should be quite worried about the loss of their DNS record!

Cant ping their name server either.

No DNS entry for www.ukservers.net

Oooer!

Matt

From their server status page:
Our servers have been inaccessable since 1:30am this [i.e. Monday]
morning, due to all six of the diverse connections from our data
centre being put out of action. Two physically separate BT fibre
conduits were vandalised in Reddich in what we believe was a raid
on a third-party.

Wonder who else this affected?
