There are lots of text scrollers out there, but can anyone recommend a nice
smooth scroller? I want vertical scrolling.

I can do that. Try the bottom of this page:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.greywyvern.com/programs.php" target="_blank">http://www.greywyvern.com/programs.php</a> where you'll find a scrolling
javascript with *lots* of settings you can change. Also quietly degrades
if javascript is turned off.

Are you sure your visitors want that?

The smoothness (for want of a better word) is largely dictated by the
processor/ram facilities available on the client. There's not much you can
do to ensure they have adequate spare resources.

Well I don't know where to find one but I can say those things
are highly annoying and cause me to exit quickly.
