Post subject: Unaable to install IIS 5.0
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have been trying to install IIS on my Win2K workstation (SP4) but had not
been able to. Tried from Control / Panel - Add / Remove Components; tried
all components of IIS and also just the basic ones. Also tried loading
directly from CD (Slipstreamed with SP4)

What happens is that setup starts and then during the "Copying Files"
process is gets stuck at about 7 -10 percent and just sits there, during
that time I can see the hard drive on constantly.

Any ideas why I can't install IIS? is there a way to download IIS separately
and try that way?

Any help is appreciated

Try resinstall IIS in this steps:

a) uninstall IIS
b) Remove files and folders
%windir%/system32/inetsvr/
/inetpub/
%windir%/iisx.log (x=5 for w2k, 6 for XP, Win03)
(use safe mode to delete)
c) reinstall IIS, repatch machines

if problems occurred, check out iisX.log in %windir%.
look for failed entry.

Failed or Messagebox entries.

Any other ideas?

Make sure com+ is not hosed. Browse component services in admin tools and make sure you can see COM+ Applications. If not, it is hosed, and you can
repair like this:

add/remove
windows componenets
<do not select or deselect any component and continue through the wizard>
finish
reboot

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
