I've got a couple of domains that I need to transfer over to a different
registrar, ie. GoDaddy, mainly because their prices are so much cheaper
than what I am paying at the moment! What I was wondering is has anyone
else had much experience of transferring to them, how easy is it, and how
long does it usually take?

Bear in mind I have until February 2005 before my domains expire, so there
isn't any rush Surprised)

Cheers,

Very easy. Most registrars have a form on their site for that. Just make
sure you copy and paste the information exactly as it reads now in the
whois. All email addresses must match the current whois. Make any changes
either with your current registrar before the transfer or after with the new
registrar.

Cheers. I suppose that's all I really needed to know - as long as it is
very easy then I'll do some time between now and 2005 Surprised)

Depending on who the registrar is you may want to do it now as some
registrars will charge a small transfer fee and add a year to your
registration.

Yeah, I've looked into the costs, and GoDaddy currently charge just under
$8US and add an extra year - my current registrar doesn't charge any fees
to release, which is a good thing!

The only time I've ever had a problem with a GoDaddy transfer was when my
former webhost sold my domain registrations to another company (and didn't
bother to inform me). The new holder of my registrations put a lock on the
domain names and didn't respond to my e-mails. Fortunately, the top-level
registrar (Tucows, I believe) was sympathetic to my plight and removed the
lock so I could approve the transfer. After that, GoDaddy took over and the
registration went smoothly.

I would estimate that I've transferred at least 10 domain names to GoDaddy.
