Post subject: Tera-byte web hosting- pathetic for corporate or legitimate companies
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Whatever you do, if you are looking for a legitimate web hosting
company for your legitimate company or to recommend to a client, take
my experience, and do NOT use Terabyte. (www.tera-byte.com). I have
been using them for about 5 years for their redirection service for my
little website, but I made the huge mistake of recommending them for a
company I worked for a few years ago. This was the beginning of the
disaster.

First of all, when transferring the site over to their server, all
went well, until they transferred the domain, then our email was down
for a week. I called and called, every time I came across someone who
tried to baffle me with some technical jargon. Finally after a week,
I called again and fell upon THE most arrogant guy you could imagine
who told me it was my error, that I didn't know how to set up the
email. When I told him this was not the case, he finally looked into
it and said "oh yes there is an error".

Shortly afterwards, 3-4 weeks, the site was down and we were getting
calls from customers (it was a tourism company) telling us the site
was down. I called Tera-byte and was told they were transferring from
a windows based server to a UNIX server and they were terribly sorry
about the inconvenience. The site was then down for an entire week.
I called back numerous times to complain that this was not acceptable
as this company relied on it's web based business. I fell on deaf
ears. I wrote a letter to the CEO, Steve Keyser I believe, who then
called me. He also just gave me excuses. Finally after about 2
months the site began to work properly and all seemed fine.

So.... I made the mistake of signing another client of mine up with
them about 4 months ago, since their web hosting is the most
competitively priced on the market,... but let me tell you, these
prices come at a cost. All was working well, until last week. I had
been downloading raw log files on a monthly basis, to provide stats
for my client. Last week, I went to get the files, to find they had
been deleted. When I contacted Tera-byte, they said "oh yes we
transferred your site to another server and this server only keeps 6
days worth of log files".

I asked if they could fix this as these log files are essential to my
client, and they said no. And so, I am now tranferring my client to a
more legitimate hosting company (www.netnation.com).

My experience with this company over the years is that it is fine if
you simply want to host your own personal web site, but if you are
doing business and if you r site is important then don't waste your
time. Their tech support is pathetic, they act all and perhaps they
are all, about 18-20 years old and very childish in their answers to
any questions.

Dominique, that hasn't been my experience over perhaps the same period
of time, and I've used shared hosting, virtual hosting and dedicated
hosting with them.

I used to host with them and I had decent service, but I felt they
were sticking too many users on a box. Other than that, I thought it
was pretty good.

I wouldn't say they are the most competitively priced either. There
are lots of better deals on hostsearch.com, one being Strongwire.com.
They have the typical feature set of other providers, but the don't
try to pack as many users on a single box as other providers I've
seen.

I was sitting in my big leather arm chair, watching alt.www.webmaster and thinking
how marvellous it would be to be a werewolf when DH said:
