Excuse my morbid curiosity, what form are these attacks taking?

Can you not trace them while they are occuring (yes I know, spoofed IP
addresses and all that, but apparently they can be traced while
active).

From what I understand, AH and AT&T are working together to source it.
Frustrating for us, but any host is vulnerable to these types of attacks as
far as I am aware.

We host over 15,000 accounts and also host many, many private server
customers. I'm sure someone is pissed off at one of them.

Probably, "because they can". It's dead easy to attack any Internet
address, and there are tons of tools to do it widely available.
