I'm sure many of us have seen this error.

Syntax error on line 116 of /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf:
SSLCertificateFile: file '/etc/httpd/conf/ssl.crt/server.crt' does not
exist or is empty

However, I just switched from DSL to Cable internet and I had to do
some modifications to my system (mainly changing the
localhost.localdomain default to a different name).

When I start up Apache using 'root' I have no problems. But when I
try starting it as a user, I get the Syntax error on line 116... As
root I generated another key but I still can't start as a regular
user. I could swear that I was able to do this before but maybe I'm
just suffering from dillusions. Anyways, any suggestions on how to
get Apache to start as a regular user?

I'm not using Apache to create any secure websites though. I'm just
using it to develop my own personal website which I then transfer to
my host. And to play a little bit with Perl.

Thanks,
Wayne D.

No. You have.

Apache must be started by root if he have to open port <= 1024,
besides, if your configuration files are owned and readable by
root (as they should be), you need to start it as root.

Ok... I must have been suffering from delusions then Smile. I'm able to
get it started while using Webmin being logged in as a regular user,
but I prefer not to use Webmin. I think it's the way I configured
Webmin though (did that a long time ago). I'll just su as root and
run Apache when I need it then.

Thanks for the reply.
