someone suggest a hosted solution (ezboard) - I would STRONGLY urge
against using a hosted board - your content is NOT considered yours by
the search engines! If you use a hosted solution, your hosted
solution ranks well for your content, not your domain!!!! Bad idea in
my books... a REALLY bad idea!

You should get your name registered, and get a host which supports PHP
and MySQL (most linux hosts do), then use one of the php boards - we
recommend phpbb (from phpbb.com) for the following reasons:

1. it's free of licensing costs
2. it's VERY easy to install
3. it's pretty low load on the server until you get busy... at that
point, you'll have enough income (hopefully) to afford your own
server.

check out the many hosts who are found around here - some offer
control panels which install the software for you - we will install it
by hand for you if you need it - free of charge in December. You
would need a "business account with us - and we're not the cheapest
host around, nor will we ever be - business accounts start at $12.50 a
month.

Above all - get a solution that you can alter easily - phpbb allows
this - there are a lot of "skins" available, and the templates are
easy to edit when you get a bit more adventurous - many hosted
solutions offer SOME customization, but generally not a lot.

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.ezboard.com" target="_blank">www.ezboard.com</a> is easy!

Its has more posts a day than all of usenet, and everyone posting on the hundred
thousand other forums can instantly join in your forum without registering. Free with
ads, about $5 a month to remove the ads but you get a free month.

Search on the forums and check out some of the larger ones. You can insert
your own HTML at the top of the forum if that's your main page.

For a free (cheaper overall) forum get a hosting account at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.affordablehost.com" target="_blank">www.affordablehost.com</a> and just
click 'add forum'.

But with ezyboard you can just visit some of the others and invite them over!!

Great, great, thanks Greg! I was wondering, do you know much about
CMS (content management system)? Any pros or cons? Thanks again.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Sorry, I have little experience of CMS's. I've installed phpnuke and
postnuke:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.postnuke.com" target="_blank">http://www.postnuke.com</a>
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.phpnuke.org" target="_blank">http://www.phpnuke.org</a>

You might try looking at:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://cgi-resources.com" target="_blank">http://cgi-resources.com</a>
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://php.resourceindex.com" target="_blank">http://php.resourceindex.com</a>

I'm sure others in the group have experience of these systems, I seem
to recall that one or other of the two I mentioned has performance
issues on lower powered or overloaded servers (I can't remember
which).
