Starting default web server automatically - Hi. I know how to get IIS to start when I start up Windows XP, but my default web server is not starting. I have to go into IIS5 to start it. I know it's something simple, but I can't seem to find the setting to get it..

Hi,

I am completely new to IIS. I am trying to create a
new virtual directory. For this, I am going into
Administrative tools, then double clicking on IIS. When I
double click, nothing happens, I thought it is supposed
to show me a tree structure with local computer, default
web site, etc. Is there something wrong with my IIS or am
I doing something wrong. I am working on Windows XP
professional. Also, in the list of services, there is a
service called World WIde web publishing, and its status
always shows as either "Starting" or "Stopping" and I am
not able to stop/start/restart it. Please let me know
what I am doing wrong. Thank you in advance.

Hey Dee,
Try to into Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs,
then Add/Remove Window Components. From there select
IIS. See if that helps you for now.

If uninstall and reinstall IIS does not resolve your issue check the
IISAdmin service - is that started?
Check anti-virus software, does stopping that change anything?
Did you get any errors in the install of IIS?
Check the IIS6.log file and search for Fail, did anything fail in the
install?

Thank you for choosing Microsoft
