Hi. I know how to get IIS to automatically start when I
start up Windows XP, but my default web server is not
automatically starting. I have to go into IIS5 to start
it. I know it's something simple, but I can't seem to
find the setting to get it to start automatically. Can
someone help me?

Thanks a lot!

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
Make sure that the IISAdmin server, and the WWW Publishing Service are both
set to "automatic"

Cheers

Hey ~

I think they misunderstood your question. The "state" of the website is
stored in the metabase as a property for that key. For example, Default Web
Site (aka w3svc/1/root) has a state that is stored from restart to restart.

The property I am trying to find, but I am not having any luck thus far...

I am not remoted in the office, but my suggestion is to do the following -

Set the site to started then do this...

c:\inetpub\adminscripts\cscript adsutil.vbs enum w3svc/1

Look for the property called something like State ... Then, set the site to
stopped. Issue the same command.. This will show.. The property values are
like 1 = started, 2 = paused, 4 = stopped or something like that..

Sorry I couldn't get you an exact answer...

But, if the website was "stopped" and the user "started" it, then the next
time the machine is started, the website should be started as well (unless
the setting is not being saved to the metabase)?

Cheers

Thanks for your help. I will give this stuff a try. I
did set it to started and then rebooted, hoping it would
retain the setting, but once again, it was stopped and I
had to start it. I'll give the metabase thing a try and
let you know.

Thanks,
Lynette

Hey, thanks for your help. It was as simple as changing
the www publishing to automatic. I didn't know it, but
when one of my coworkers was trying to optimize services
on this laptop, he'd set that to manual.

Thanks again to both of you,
