I had a domain at stargateinc.com aka stargate.com and it expired last
night. I forgot to renew it and today I went to renew it but its not in my
account. I got an email right after that from them saying I need to fax a
form to them to get it back.Guess how much they want to now renew it for a
year.... $150!#@$@#$%

Same thing happened at namecheap.com a year aho and they only wanted the
$8.88 it normally costs. I suggest everyone stay away from stargateinc.com
when getting a domain.

Did it expire last night...or did it go into redemption last night?
Generally, you get 30 days after a domain expires in which you can renew at
the normal price. After that, you get about another 30 days in which you
can renew it for about a $200 penalty fee.

Well, what about waiting for 30 days. Then buy it again at $6. And
don't repeat the same mistake.

You'd be better off registering a whole new domain name.
$150 is extortion.

Ouch! Funny thing. I have started moving some domains to a new
registrar, godaddy. For one of my existing registrars (opensrs through
ukreg) there is no fee to move a name away. One of my other registrars
(easyspace.com) wants £50 +VAT (nearly $100) to move a name away!!

I emailed them yesterday and told them I thought it was criminal, and
suggested I might complain to Internic about it. Haven't heard from
them yet.

Went into redemption last night. I got an email asking for $150 to get it
back. Plus since I dont have a fax Ill have to pay the local fax place to
send the fax for me. Plus thats a security thing because the info they want
faxed includes my CC info. Very unprofessional in my opinion.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I doubt you will hear from them. They have your domain and they have your

So, it was expired for a month before you decided it was important enough to
renew? You're lucky they only charge $150. Many registrars charge much
more, once it goes into redemption. I don't know of any registrar that
doesn't charge a penalty fee like that.

No the domain was good until the 23rd of this month. Its now in redemption.
No holding period what so ever.
I have 10 days according to them before they release it.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Well I would but a email address from that domain is in my paypal account
and when I try to remove it paypal says the card number is wrong. The card
number is right because its the same card # I added to Paypal.

If I dont pay I will end up losing my paypal account if someone else
registers the domain.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Except there's no guarantee he'll get it. Someone else might get it
first. There's a lot of people who buy expired domain names.

$150 ? Perhaps we could organise a collection here, among all your
friends. If they all put in one dollar, that should raise....er...oh
yes, I forgot. You either spam copped them or insulted them.

Oh well, never mind.

It must be lonely at the top.

I just wondered if they had a rule about this. Remember, being a
registrar isn't a God given right, they must comply with Internic/ICANN
rules.
