Free hosting provided at
http://www.sitesled.com
I'm testing this host out and everything is working out fine for me. Haven't
been using it very long though, so these are first impressions.
Your url is available in two ways when you sign up. You can either use
http://username.sitesled.com or, if you prefer,
http://www.sitesled.com/members/username/.
With Sitesled, you get 100Mb space, a very healthy 30Gb bandwidth per month
(capped at 1Gb per day) and no file size limit (apparently). You can upload
files via their Control Panel, or by
FTP. CGI, PHP, or MySQL are not allowed
at present.
As far as I can tell there are NO AD'S placed on your website. No banners.
No pop-up's or pop-under's. No text links. The only advertisements I noticed
were on the actual website of sitesled and their forum, but they were very
unobtrusive.
When you are signed up you won't be able to use your account straight away.
It can take anything from 24 to 72 hours for your account to be activated as
it is a manual process. I was using my account in less than 24 hours, and I
received an email when it was available to use but some people on their
forums have complained of having to wait 3 days for activation.
If help is needed they offer a support ticket system, as well as forums
(http://www.sitesled.com/forums/index.php) to discuss problems concerning
this host. They also add updates to their service here, but I have received
emails too.
My only worry for this host is that they've only been up since May. This is
what they have to say on their FAQ:
<quote>8. How long will my website remain online?
Our offer to host your website for free is a lifetime offer. We do not use
activity monitors or anything else to delete accounts. By being able to
count on consistent performance from sitesled to meet your hosting needs you
will be able to establish a long term following of surfers for years to
come.<end quote>
I guess I'll be keeping an eye on sitesled (especially as I'm using them to
host one of my own websites). So far though, they've proved to be reliable.
On an end note: they also only accept English websites, and some
countries/IP's are blocked but if you are in such a country (or have such an
IP block) you can go on their forum and the staff there will try and clear
it up for you so you can have an account and be able to use it.
