Post subject: IIS and Server Extensions
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I created a net web site through Internet Information Services. When I go
to the new web site and check its properties, I notice that the server
extensions are not configured for it. The Server Extensions tab says, "This
server has not been configured to use the Server Extensions. To configure
it, choose Configure Server Extensions from the Task menu for the server."
Where is this Task menu? I right-click the server name node in the Internet
Information Services tree and go to All Tasks and from that I see Check
Server Extensions. If I choose Check Server Extensions, It will start
checking and a dialog box asking me if I want to tighten security as much as
possible for all FrontPage webs appears, I choose Yes and it says CORRECTED.
If I right-click the particular web site under my server name, I see
Configure Server Extensions and I choose that. Now I check the properties
for that particular web site and under the Server Extensions tab I see the
same old message, "This server has not been configured to use the Server
Extensions. To configure it, choose Configure Server Extensions from the
Task menu for the server." How do I configure Server Extensions for my
server? Do I need to go to some other console in order to configure them?
Where is this Task menu? Do all services need to be stopped before I can
configure Server Extensions? What am I missing? I'm would think Server
Extensions are configured for my server because Server Extensions
Administrator MMC in the Administrative Tools folder and in the console tree
of the Server Extensions Administrator MMC, I see FrontPage Server
Extensions folder and under that I see a folder for my server and under that
there is another folder and so on. I've gone back to the Internet Services
Manager MMC and I see that the Server Extensions are configured for the
Default Web Site which I stopped. Does this mean that the Server Extensions
can only be configured for one web site at a time?

I am new to this in case you haven't noticed. It's probably something
obvious that I just don't see. Smile From my understanding, it is neccessary
to have the server extensions configured before you can edit and debug asp
pages in a web editor such as Microsoft Interdev. Is that correct?

Thank you very much,
Keith

Hello Keith,

I am not sure if you have to have the FPSE's installed to get VS.NET
working - I think it works over the files system as well... but anyhow,
you're question about FPSE's would best be handled by that FPSE group...
