I am trying to publish to a Windows XP machine from another Windows XP
machine I have setup on a small home network. When I try to publish to the
web server machine it is asking me for a password for the Guest
account,{computername/Guest} and I cannot change the user. I have the Guest
account OFF on both machines and I have a few users including admin setup on
both machines with passwords. Why can I not choose a user?
I know this question is probably simple but I cannot find the resolution

Thanks in advance...

-Greg

Hello,

Try to disable "Simple File Sharing".

Double click "My Computer".
Click Tools->Folder Options, View tab.

Good article, but how I resolved the issue was I changed the default user
from the anonymous to myself. That appears to have cleared it up although I
did not try to access it from a browser outside my local networ.

Thank you for your replies...

Hi Greg,

Using your logon account as IIS anonymous account isn't a secure
operation. I recommend you do the following:

1) Create a dedicated account on both boxes with the same username
and password.
2) Grant the account with permission on the share and your web
content.
3) Set up the account as this special site/vdir's anonymous account.

Please update here if there is any further problem. Thanks.
Best regards,
