Post subject: Getting Out of Secure Server
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I finally and successfully was able to call up through my secure
server, a FormMail web page I created. In addition I had to also call
up the redirect page as well to keep the security warning pop-up from
showing. I placed a button at the bottom of the redirect page to take
the visitor back to the index.html (Home) page. Although the link does
not call it through the secure server it does so anyway. As hard as it
was for me to get the required pages to call up in the secure
environment, now I need to know how to gracefully get out of it? Any
help mucho appreciated.

I'm not sure why you would want a form to mail page to be called via a
secure page. If the output of the form is being sent unencrypted via email
there's not much sense in using a secure page to fill out the form.

Ugh. Tell me you're not emailing credit card information to yourself, in
plain text. Sad

HMmmm! Good point. Which invites another question. If the data needs
to be secure what would be the ideal way to handle this? Although the
parsed data is not overly sensitive the customer wants it handled
through a secure server.

Thanks for pointing this out. It does seem a bit left of center to
have data moving securely in one direction and not in the other.

It could be written to a file in a password protected directory that isn't
linked anywhere and only accissible via a secure server for the customer to
read.

Funny enough. In the last week I have given my credit card details to two
total strangers. I was making purchases over the phone.

I'll tell you what *really* bugs me. People who have purchased like this
for years, yet when you mention buying something online, they go apoplectic
and complain about security!!

PGP

quite - although you could simply mail notice of a transaction and supply
more secure (and pw protected) pages for the client to browse the data.

GREAT IDEA! I'm not going to volunteer anything but should it come up
I will certainly give that idea some serious consideration. The info
visitors will be giving isn't anything overly sensitive. The security
issue is brought up by suits who want to look important in front of
their boss's I suspect.

Thanks for the good alternative. If the question comes up now I have
something of an answer. I appreciate you response, help, and info.
Thanks

Mr Sweeney;
I stand corrected. Thank you William and all who shared their
expertise, knowledge, and experience regarding my question. Your help
is much appreciated.
