Is SMTP not running in IIS or not visible in the Manager? If it's Window
Server 2003, try running this:
regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\smtpsnap.dll

Only reply by newsgroup. If I see an email I didn't ask for, it will be
deleted without reading.

Non that I can see.
Nothing that relates to the SMTP anyway.
The mail is being delivered to the Pickup folder but its not being sent out.
This was all working about a month ago. The only real change to the server
has been the upgrade of the service pack.

Also I'm not sure if I am looking ni the right place for the errors
I am just checking the Windows Event Viewer and looking in all directories.
Is there a specific place I should be checking??

That's probably the correct place.
In a cmd.exe window, type:
netstat -an
And check if 0.0.0.0:25 is one of the entries

You can try uninstalling the smtp service only, from add/remove windows componenents, reboot, and then add it back. Or, this group
may help:
microsoft.public.inetserver.iis.smtp_nntp
Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
