I'm running IIS 5.1 on Xp Pro. When I'm trying to send email via a C#
WebService without any kind of authentification using the virtual SMTP
Server featured in IIS, the messages I'm trying to send stay in the queue
folder and the "From" email get a delay notification.

Is that a bug or is it me who's bugging. Does I need authentification
(windows, user/password...). Thak you. And sorry for my english (i'm
french...)

What does the delay notification say? Does the box know how to deliver mail
to the destination you are trying to send to?

To expand a little...

Have you set the Smart Host in the SMTP settings? Usually you put your
ISP's outbound email server here, or whatever your dedicated outbound mail
server is.

You will get Delay notifications if the local SMTP service does not know
where (to which server) to send the emails.

Hello,

Look in the Event Log. It should tell you why the message is delayed. Most
likely, you have a DNS issue.

The mails i was trying to send arrived!!! Quite a good news but with a delay
of 2-3 days??? Why?? I've look in the event log but there a lot of date and
hours and email adresses and URL, how can i decode this???

When Jake's talking about the smart host, is it under the LDAP tab or the
"delivering"(sorry for translation cauz i've got the french version) one
(the advance options button).

Thanks a lot to you all.

Good to hear it finally arrived.

You would go to the "delivery" tab then "advanced" button.
