Post subject: Running Multiple Websites
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi,
I have this problem of starting multiple websites at a
time.
for example "By default in ISM the Default Web site is
started". After i create a new website i want to start the
newly created website. But it is giving error saying
Request cant be executed.

If i stop the default website then i can start the newly
created website. But my problem is that i want to run
multiple websites simultaneously.

Can any one just tell me is it possible to start
Multiple websites at a time. and if it is possible how to
do it.

and i have one more question. I create a new website by
using the script "mkw3site.vbs" located in AdminScripts
Directory of Inetpub directory. I want to know how to
create a new web site through Internet Service Manager.

Thanking you,
Sumanth

Sumanth,
If you change the port of the new website to anything
other 80, you can have the other one started.

It is possible to run multiple websites. If you only have
one ip address, then you have to use different port
numbers or use host headers. You can't start your 2nd
website because it is using port 80...the same as the
default website. 2 websites with the same ip address
cannot both respond to port 80...unless you are using
host headers.

To create a new website in ISM, right click the server
name, select new and then website. Follow the wizard.

It sounds like there's a conflict with your sites. There are three things
that identify a site - the IP, port, and host name. One of those things
must be unique for each site. In other words, if each site uses the same IP
and port, then each one must have a unique host header name. You also MUST
be running a Server OS to do this, not W2K Pro or WXP pro.
