Wise words! Don't think you will get many arguments here!
Too much to review for English, but I did notice "so called splash screen".
I think this should be written "so-called splash screen".
Great work.

In this section:

You either forgot or perhaps did not know about those lovely sites
I have come across lately.
What happens is I click a link in an email to visit a website. I see the
site
for a bit then try to move on by clicking another link in an email...
Problem is that somehow that site prevents me from seeing the newly
clicked link in that same window even though I have done that hundreds
of thousands of times before. Instead it seems to force the new clicked link
to open in a new window which does not happen since I have a pop up stopper.
So that leaves me having to press 'home' first to clear that site out and
then I can
click the link and view the new site in that same window.
How they do this I have not a clue. I have never bothered to look but it
annoys
the hell out of me every damn time. >
Maybe you have found a site like this or know how they do it. If you have
never
come across one then I am truly happy for you.
As for the article. Sounds good so far.

On or around Sat, 28 Jun 2003 23:27:52 +0200, there was a message,
possibly from John Bokma <postmaster.TakeThisOut@castleamber.com>, as follows:

"...an URL..."
Since 'URL' is usually pronounced 'yew ahr ell', not 'earl', it should
probably be 'a URL'.
"This is bad practice" is correct, but
"this is a bad practice" is more idiomatic.
Under 'Flocking',
"it contributes to nothing" should be "it contributes nothing."
2.8 New Window
The reason given doesn't mention 'accessibility' -- it isn't
forgetfulness that is the reason for not opening new windows.
3.1 Back
The position seems a bit too strong. See
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mbstevens.com/howtothumb/index.html#backbutton" target="_blank">http://www.mbstevens.com/howtothumb/index.html#backbutton</a>
5 Client Side Scripting
"...there are also good things possible with..." is correct, but
"...good things are also possible with..." is more idiomatic.
Nice article.

You mean that:
(1) You visit a site via a link
(2) You visit another site but this one doesn't open because you suspect
the first site somehow forces the new site to open in a new window
(which can't happen due to the popup stopper?).

Weird. Please email me an example. It sounds a bit like the "back"
killer. I guess it is a kind of "on exit" handler written in JavaScript.

Yes exactly, I have only tested this with links in emails.

Okay here is one that does that:
http://www.offerstream.com/ad/568/CD32/&dp=433&l=
And here is another link just for testing purposes:
http://www.page-zone.com/
And if murphy's law takes effect and it doesn't work I will
be most peeved. I just tested it out a minute or two ago
and I could not open a new link in the same window after
loading the first link. Be sure to let the top link load completely.

Hmm, an URL ~ 112,000 pages, a URL ~ 1,320,000 pages.. Now is Google not
a dictionary but together with your explanation I agree. Noted!

Don't understand this sentence .

That referer story.. It sometimes is not set, or wrongly set. I already
have people visiting my site using it to promote there own site, ie.
they have the referer hardcoded to their site .
I disagree: why repeat browser functionality. Let the people discover
the back button and learn to use it .

Thanks, will make these changes probably tomorrow and hope to be able to
write "the rest" of it.
