Hi there

I am in the process of creating a website for my archery club. I
would like to register a domain name for the site. However, due to
limited funds, I would like to keep costs to a minimum by using the
free space that I get with my personal internet account. How do I do
this

Register the domain name with a company that offers URL redirection with the
registration. Any eNom partner (like us) can do that for you.

My dad used to do that.

Good start.

Either set up a forwarding address with the company you buy your domain
name from or find out if you can use the domain with your free space. An
email to tech support should help.

You might want to try setting it up on a free host that supports domain
names, try looking in people's sigs.

It's called redirection. You set it up so that when someone types in your
domain name they are sent to the actual location of your site.

Most domain registrars offer free redirection these days. Make sure yours
does.

this is called web forwarding and I haven't seen anyone who does this for
free (to be honest I haven't really looked). Why don't you look at some free
hosting companies. There are lots out there and depending on your sites
needs I'm pretty sure you could find one.

This way it will at least look like a proper hosted account as opposed to
one that will show up as being <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.aol.members.blahblah" target="_blank">www.aol.members.blahblah</a> etc<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.123-eg.co.uk" target="_blank">www.123-eg.co.uk</a> or 1&1 both do web forwarding for free as part of a=20
domain registering service that is ridiculously cheap anyway. I use=20
them both and they are fine. I think 1&1 is doing .co.uk for under =A32 a=
=20
year at the moment -- they were a week or two ago.

If you want to be a bit more professional (and make it less complicated=20
for the search engines to find you) then you can buy hosting from an=20
american site called jv-hosting.net (which I also use) for a ludicrously=20
low $5 a year for 25 meg. You still register with someone like 123-reg,=20
then re-set the nameservers to the address of your host.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
