I am building a secondary web server for an organization
using a small 1u rack server and was wondering what RAID
level you would use. The server does not host the main
site. It is used to host departmental and personal
sites. I know RAID 1 will allow high redundancy while
RAID 5 will allow better utilization of disk space.
There are three 35GB which would create 70GB for RAID 5
and 35 for RAID 1. (I would drop a disk and insert the cd-
rom if I used RAID 1).

Thanks.
Luigi

It depends what's more important - RAID 5 has poor performance but will give
you more usable disk space. RAID 1 performs a lot better but you'll get less
space. I'd personally go with RAID 1, disks are cheap these days...

I'd use a RAID 5 personally, but if the redundancy and data protection
isn't an issue, RAID 0 will give you higher performance than any
others.
