Post subject: Problems with deleted 2nd website..
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi,

IIS delivered with w2kpro SP3

I once had a second IP address where I hosted a secondary website, say
mydomain.net. However the ip got deleted and I forgot about the secondary
website. So far so good.

however when I now host the same website at an internet web hotel I cannot
access it from the internet from the w2k machine. It immediately pops up:

"Unable to Fetch Domain
The requested URL cannot be loaded. "

The reason is surely that some remains of the iis' secondary mydomain.net
still exist and the http request is routed to this site (which no longer
exist) instead of looking it up at the internet.

How can I get rid of all iis references to mydomain.net so I can acces it as
any other internet url?

Thanks for any hints on this issue

regards

Tor

I don't get any answer. The ip address (2nd ip for a nic) has been deleted
more than a year ago. This is probably some residual stuff since those
days... I just can't figure out to get rid of it so that I can have this
site loaded from the internet.

Hi,

Are you accessing the website with a DNS name? As far as i know, it
shouldn't matter if IIS has a website configured with the same name or not,
because Internet Explorer should ask the DNS server for the IP, and then try
to connect to that IP. Have you configured the DNS server correctly? Do you
use a lmhosts file?

Have you tried to connect to the website using another machine? It works? It
sounds more like a Networking problem than an IIS problem, maybe you will
get a faster reply in one of the networking newsgroups?
