| I'm running Windows XP Pro and trying to install IIS. I go through the
whole process in Add/Remove Programs, and it executes it without any issues.
However, I've got nothing at http://localhost and Visual Studio .NET won't
recognize any web server. Any ideas?
Thanks.

By the way, let me add that I've got Norton Antivirus and Internet Security
installed, though both are disabled right now.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Problem Installing IIS |

Try to use 127.0.0.1 or DNS name of your computer. If not helps do following
Start->Run->Cmd
write there ipconfig
See the IP addresses you get
Goto browser and enter the ip addresses one by one
If still nothing
Open Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Internet Information services
Open YOUR-COMPUTER-NAME/Web Sites/Look at Default Web Site. Notice that
there is not "Stopped" word near the Default Web Site.
Right Click - Properties. Look at IPAddress (All Unassigned). Choose proper
IP address
Check your browser with <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://YOUR_ADDRESS/" target="_blank">http://YOUR_ADDRESS/</a>
Hopes it helps.

You want dot.NET? Just ask:
"Please, <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.dotnet.us" target="_blank">www.dotnet.us</a> "

OK, did that in Visual Studio .NET and got an error message that "the
specified server is not running ASP.NET 1.1". But since the specified
server is my computer (right?) and I had to install the .NET framework with
Visual Studio .NET, that strikes me as odd.

Let's stop right there -- Internet Information Services isn't listed. The
..NET framework 1.1 is there (twice, actually), but IIS is missing. If it's
supposedly installing correctly (according to the installer, at least),
where is it? Thanks...

If you installed IIS last you'll need to register ASP.NET with it:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306005" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306005</a>
If you look in the Services control panel, do you see World Wide Web
Publishing and IIS Admin?

Doing that right now. Should I uninstall version 1.0.3705 and just leave
1.1.4322? Could that be why Visual Studio .NET is not recognizing the new
version?

No, I don't. Ugh!

Are you sure you installed it from the WXP Pro CD? Something is wrong for
sure ...

Yep -- I've got my XP Pro Reinstallation CD that came with my Dell (I assume
this is the right one). Just put it in, ran setup, selected "Install
Optional Windows Components", made sure IIS was checked, and proceeded. The
status bar showed that IIS was one of the components being installed, and I
then got a message informing me that the operation had completed
successfully. After doing this, I went back into the Services control
panel, and still no WWWPublishing or IIS Admin. Could something be
interfering with the installation? My Norton Internet Security and
Antivirus automatically shut down before the installation occurred. Could
my wireless network be to blame? (Linksys router, encrypted network.)
Thanks, Tom.
