Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

I am running Apache on Gentoo. I have mod_ftpd setup and working,
somewhat. The issue that I am having is that everytime I try to use an
FTP client, it tells me my un/pw is wrong. I am just wondering where
the un/pw is defined. Is it any user on that machine, or is set
somewhere else? I haven't seen any documentation on this. I have been
trying to use the root un/pw, plus any others I could think of. I had
changed the document root in mod_ftpd.conf to be /var/www/localhost/
htdocs, so that it would bring up the webfiles when it loaded, instead
of /home/user.
