Using Apache 1.3 on Solaris 8 and Netscape 4.7 browser.

I was trying to use the Netscape File -> Edit Page option to update
a .html page but received the following error message:

405 Method Not Allowed
Error uploading files

The server responded:
Method Not Allowed
The requested method PUT is not allowed for the URL ...

Not sure how/what I need to configure to allow updating of the web
pages by the Netscape browser.

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Mike

I would not allow usage of a PUT method until you
carefully research, read and learn about the very
significant security issues associated with PUT.

Usage of PUT is very rare and is better thought of
as a vestige of bygone days when people using the
internet could be trusted.

Thanks for the link.

The network I am working on is a closed net of about 30 workstations.
So there is no outside connection at all.

The users who would be PUTting the files to the server own the
network. I just try to make things happen for them.

So configuring and allowing PUTs should not be a major problem. If it
gets screwed up - Oh Well...

Thanks

I would recommend using NFS or Samba with proper group permissions for
web page updates instead of PUT. I also recommend throwing away
Netscape 4.7 and joining the 21st century.
