David,
I complement you on your diligence in researching your venture before
jumping in with both feet. Too many clients (and potential clients)
have unrealistic expectations For .com ventures and rarely have
coherent business strategies in place before attempting
implementation..
Opinions very on the subject of the profitability of such a venture; I
however am of the opinion that if developed correctly with the
necessary attention given to diversification of services (i.e. having
menu and recipe assistance, restaurant delivery, and other relevant
services included) SEO, advertising, stategic partnerships, and
marketing to the niche market that would be the highest percentage of
likely clients, that this venture could (and would) be successful and
have the eventual opportunity for franchising.
I do agree that having adequate venture capital is a must (1 year is a
minimum, 2 years is recommended) and that avoiding issues like the
delivery of alcoholic beverages and tobacco would be wise.
Creating strategic partnerships is vital to your success with reliable
vendors, and having the appropriate licenses, insurance and other key
aspects of any business are the starting point.
If I, or my firm can be of any assistance please feel free to contact
me at any time (my contact information is listed below). Also, search
google groups for: online grocery delivery, and online grocery
ordering, I found several very good posts and articles that you may or
may not have already read that are pertinent to your proposed venture.
